Christopher Beyers, Ph.D. (1962–2019)

Christopher Byers In MemoriamChristopher Beyers, Ph.D., 57, served as a professor of English for more than 20 years. He was committed to the importance and value of the liberal arts and had a variety of academic interests, manifested in the many courses he taught, ranging from American Literature and American Poetry to African American Literature, Romanticism, and Children’s Literature. An excellent writer, he was a nationally recognized expert in American poetry, in particular the history of free verse. Beyers served on the Representative Faculty Senate and various committees, and actively participated in mission-related faculty seminars and reading groups. He leaves behind his son, William, a member of the Class of 2022.
