Leonard “Rick” Sorenson, 75, a longtime political science professor, passed away on March 1, 2021.
Prof. Sorenson began his 29-year teaching career at Assumption in 1982, where he taught political theory and American political thought while also serving as a mentor for students until his retirement in 2011. During his time at Assumption, he helped organize the “symposiette” series, an informal group of faculty who gathered to discuss one another’s work, a longstanding tradition that still endures at the University.
He was the author of several books and articles on political theory, notably on Jean-Jacques Rousseau and James Madison, including Madison on the “General Welfare“ of America: His Consistent Constitutional Vision.
