Casey Blake ’09 of Medford is forging her own career path. In October 2017, Blake, who is the marketing manager at Edelstein & Company, LLP, a certified public accounting and advisory firm based in Boston, was named one of the 2017 Women to Watch by the Massachusetts Society of CPAs (MSCPA). Though these awards are historically given to CPAs only, “the judging panel was so impressed with Casey’s nomination that we decided to create a new award category,” said Amy Pitter, president and CEO of the MSCPA. Blake was the first-ever winner of the inaugural Professional Associate Leader category.
“This honor means so much to me,” said Blake, who joined Edelstein in February 2015. “As a marketing professional in the accounting industry and as a non-CPA, it is a true honor to be recognized as someone who is passionate about this industry.” Blake directs all firm-wide marketing initiatives including the development of industry strategic marketing plans, the management of website and social media content, and client educational programming and materials. Each day, Blake depends on the time management skills and her ability to “think outside of the box” that she learned at Assumption.
“If someone had told me in college that I would be a marketing professional at an accounting firm, I wouldn’t have believed them,” she said. “It can be easy to think of marketing in a very distinct box, but I encourage students to think outside of where you might normally look.”
