On October 18, Lawrence O'Donnell – political analyst, actor, writer, and host of MSNBC’s The Last Word with Lawrence O’Donnell – presented the inaugural lecture of the Daniel Patrick Moynihan  Center for Scholarship and Statesmanship at Assumption College. His lecture, titled “A Personal Reflection on Daniel Patrick Moynihan: The Scholar and Statesman,” was a personal and professional reflection of his time working for the late senator  and how Sen. Moynihan influenced his career.

Institution Establishes Daniel Patrick Moynihan Center to Bridge Scholarship and Statesmanship

Assumption established the Daniel Patrick Moynihan Center for Scholarship and Statesmanship, an endeavor with a national reach cultivating citizen inspired by the senator’s example to appreciate the link between ideas and action. The institute is funded by grants from the Thomas W. Smith Foundation and William and Flora Hewlett Foundation.

Greg Weiner, Ph.D., Named Next Provost of Assumption

Greg Weiner, Ph.D., associate professor of political science, was named the next provost of Assumption, effective next academic year. Prof. Weiner’s appointment follows the retirement announcement of current Provost and Academic Vice President Louise Carroll Keeley, Ph.D., who will retire at the end of the current 2018–19 academic year.

With incidents of identity theft on the ruse and countless cyberattacks occurring each year against individuals, businesses, and government agencies, Assumption is offering a new Bachelor of Science in Cybersecurity this fall. The curriculum is designed to meet the standards outlined by the National Security Agency and DHS.
