Fr. Oliver Blanchette, A.A. AP’35, AU’36 (1916–2020)

Oliver Blanchette, the world’s oldest Assumptionist and a beloved member of the Assumptionist and Worcester Diocese communities, passed away on May 11. He graduated from Assumption Prep and College, made his first profession on October 2, 1940, and was ordained to the priesthood on June 16, 1944.

Gerard J. Brault, Ph.D., AP’46, AU’50, HD’76 (1929-2020)

Gerard Brault passed away on February 5. A graduate of Assumption Prep and College, he earned a master’s degree in French from Laval University in Quebec City and a doctorate in Romance languages from the University of Pennsylvania. He is a veteran of the Korean War and wrote numerous books.

Nalin Ranasinghe, Ph.D. (1960-2020)

Nalin Ranasinghe passed away suddenly on March 13 during a flight from India. He had been a faculty member in the Department of Philosophy since 2001, during which he encouraged students to live up to their humanity, connected with them on a personal level, and left a lasting impression.

Claire Quintal, Ph.D., HD’98 (1930-2020)

Claire Quintal, founding director emerita of the French Institute at Assumption, passed away on April 30. She was renowned as a French and Franco-American studies scholar, an internationally and nationally known speaker, author, editor, and translator. She served as a dean of Assumption’s Graduate School and awarded an honorary degree.
