Before a crowd of thousands, Robert Lewis Jr. shared his life story of struggle and achievement while inspiring the Class of 2019 to live a life of meaning during the institution’s 102nd Commencement on Sunday, May 12, at the DCU Center in downtown Worcester where hundreds of students gathered together.

Making a Difference in Worcester After School Programs

Through Assumption’s Community Service-Learning program, students are provided opportunities to “Light the Way” for others. Students enrolled in ENG/SOC 225, an over-decade old course examines inner-city problems through literature and sociology texts, taught by Professor Mike Land. Students apply what they have learned from watching The Wire to real-life experiences.

NSF Grant to Train Mathematics Teachers

Professors Jessica de la Cruz and Joseph Alfano have secured a $118,315 National Science Foundation grant to address a shortage of mathematics teachers in the state of Massachusetts. Both will work with 20 first- and second-year undergraduate students interested in STEM or undeclared to promote mathematics and education dual major.
